Itinerary  |  21 - 27 December 2025
  • DAY 1. Sculpture Garden | Firth of Thames | Coromandel Town

Sunday 21 December. Our festive journey begins in Auckland’s rural heartland as we head to Clevedon to visit Riverhaven Artland. Here, Guy Blundell welcomes us for an exclusive tour of his stunning property, featuring larger-than-life sculptures set amid beautiful gardens.

After lunch, we travel south along the Firth of Thames, passing Kawakawa Bay, Kaiaua, and Miranda. At Miranda’s Shorebird Centre, we learn about the godwits, who migrate from Alaska each September, and the 130 other bird species recorded here.

By late afternoon, we arrive at our accommodation in Coromandel Town and settle in for a relaxing two-night stay.

    Lunch, Dinner

  • DAY 2. Coromandel Town | Driving Creek Railway

Monday 22 December. Today, we explore Coromandel Town with a knowledgeable local guide. As we stroll the streets, stories of Māori history, kauri logging, the gold rush, and the great fire of 1895 bring the town’s colourful past to life.

Next, we visit Driving Creek, home to a unique narrow-gauge railway weaving through regenerating forest. Enjoy panoramic views from EyeFull Tower, and learn about the legacy of potter Barry Brickell.

In the afternoon, you’re free to browse boutique shops and galleries or simply relax at the motel.

    Breakfast, Dinner

  • DAY 3. Whitianga | Cathedral Cove | Hot Water Beach | Pauanui

Tuesday 23 December. With bags packed, we journey across the peninsula to Whitianga, where we board a glass-bottom boat for a scenic coastal cruise. Marvel at Cathedral Cove, dramatic cliffs, sea caves, and marine life beneath the surface.

After free time to explore Whitianga we head to the famous Hot Water Beach. Stroll the sands, dig a hole and feel the warmth around your toes with the naturally heated spring beneath the waters.

We then continue to Pauanui for a luxurious two-night stay at the Grand Resort Puka Park. Nestled within 25 acres of native bush, tranquil fern-lined paths lead to elegant chalet-style accommodation. Surrounded by rich birdsong and natural beauty, this peaceful retreat is the perfect place to welcome Christmas Day in.

    Breakfast, Dinner

  • DAY 4. Alderman Islands | Tairua

Wednesday 24 December. It’s ships ahoy as we set sail for the Aldermen Islands, also known as the Vanishing Volcanoes. This remarkable island chain features towering rhyolite domes, sheer cliff faces, and unique flora and fauna found nowhere else on the mainland.

Back on terra firma, you might like to go for a wander along the beautiful beach to collect shells or  mooch about the local stores and take in the sunny beach vibes!

It’s Christmas Eve, so we celebrate in style by taking a water taxi to a wonderful restaurant on the shores of Tirua for a memorable meal.

    Breakfast, Dinner

  • DAY 5. Christmas Day

    Thursday 25 December.

With morning light and bags in tow,

We set off where the sea breezes blow.

    Through Whangamatā’s golden sand,

A beachside stroll—so calm, so grand.

Past Waihi’s charm and Katikati’s cheer,

Through Bethlehem’s lanes as Christmas draws near.

We pause for lunch, a cheerful break,

Then onward to the harbour’s wake.

    Our haven awaits—Trinity Wharf’s grace,

    Where harbour waters softly embrace.

Two nights of rest in style and ease,

With views that shimmer in the breeze.

As evening falls, we raise a cheer,

With Christmas drinks and warmth sincere.

Then dine beneath the starlit sky,

    crackers pop and spirits fly!!

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • DAY 6. Boxing Day

Friday 26 December. Get ready for an exhilarating day as we head to Mt Maunganui! We kick off the adventure by climbing aboard a kiwi-built V8 Chevrolet Trike for a thrilling ride through the picturesque Bay of Plenty. It’s the perfect way to take in the stunning local sights from a unique perspective!

For those who enjoy walking, you may choose to complete the 3.5km track that circles around Mt Maunganui, offering breathtaking views along the way. Alternatively, unwind with a relaxing swim at the beach or enjoy a peaceful moment with an icecream by the shore. The beach shops will be buzzing with Boxing Day sales, so alternatively, go out and explore!

    Breakfast, Dinner

  • DAY 7. Equine Dynamics | Homeward Bound

Saturday 27 December. As our festive journey ends, we bid farewell to Tauranga and make tracks home. We stop to visit Equine Dynamics Farm in Oropi, where we meet Leanne Benjamin. Leanne is known for her incredible work using horse therapy to transform lives. Her programs support children, youth, families, and individuals facing challenges such as disability, mental illness, and neurodiversity. We witness firsthand the profound impact of these magnificent animals.

After lunch, we return to Auckland, where we say our farewells. We hope your holiday with Seemore Tours has brought Christmas cheer and wonderful memories and you consider travelling with us on another adventure, where you see more, do more, and have more fun!

Why visit:

Driving Creek Railway, Coromandel

So you can say you've been to the Eyefull Tower — the building on top of the hill. There's a great view from there across the Hauraki Gulf and into the site's predator-free sanctuary where kiwi live.

Brickell was a great conservationist and his aim in 1973 was to restore this scrubby, pine-infested farmland to its pre-European state, planting thousands of kauri, rimu and totara: it's inspiring to see what he has achieved.

You might also be inspired by his use of wine bottles to build attractive and functional retaining walls along the track, and leave with a new sense of purpose. The trip itself is fun and interesting, with the driver swapping ends as the switchbacks dictate, lovely glazed tile walls along the way and beautiful views down over the circular fans of tree ferns.
