DAY 1. Napier, Linden Estate & Art Deco by Vintage Car

We arrive in Napier late morning and begin our Hawke’s Bay journey at Linden Estate in the Esk Valley, where we enjoy a relaxed welcome lunch surrounded by vines.
This afternoon, we meet one of Napier’s passionate vintage car enthusiasts and explore the city in true Art Deco style. Along the way, we hear the story of the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake, Napier’s remarkable rebuild and the architecture that made the city internationally famous.
Later, we check into the Art Deco Masonic Hotel, our home for all four nights. Ideally positioned in central Napier, it means we can unpack once and settle in for the days ahead.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
DAY 2. Cape Kidnappers Gannet Safari & Mangapapa High Tea

Today brings together spectacular landscapes, remarkable wildlife and a touch of elegance.
We begin in Te Awanga, boarding a 4WD safari to Cape Kidnappers. Our journey takes us through beautiful coastline, working farms and native bush towards the famous gannet colony.
At Cape Kidnappers, we'll have the opportunity to see thousands of gannets gathering, nesting, preening and soaring overhead — a wonderful wildlife experience in an equally spectacular setting.
After our safari, we change the pace completely with an elegant High Tea lunch at Mangapapa. Once home to Sir James and Lady Wattie, this gracious country property provides a beautiful setting to relax over High Tea and enjoy a little old-world Hawke's Bay hospitality.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 3. Cape Sanctuary & Craggy Range Estate

This morning we return to Te Awanga for a visit to Cape Sanctuary, one of New Zealand’s leading privately funded conservation projects.
We learn about the protection and reintroduction of native species including takahē, kākāriki, giant wētā and tuatara, alongside dune restoration, coastal revegetation and habitat protection.
Later, we visit Craggy Range Estate, one of Hawke’s Bay’s best-known wineries, set beneath Te Mata Peak. We explore the property, hear the story of the Peabody family, visit the fermentation rooms and cellars, and enjoy the opportunity for a Prestige Collection tasting.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 4. Private Historic Homes & Gardens with John Vickers

Today we join our friend John Vickers, whose remarkable knowledge of New Zealand architecture and historic homes gives us privileged access to some very special private properties across Hawke’s Bay.
We explore homes and gardens associated with respected New Zealand architects including Charles Natusch, James Walter Chapman-Taylor and Russell & Bignell.
This is one of those special Seemore Tours experiences you won’t find on a standard sightseeing itinerary — a chance to go behind the gates, meet local owners and discover places that are not normally part of the tourist trail.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 5. Birdwoods & a Private Cheese and Wine Experience with Juliet Harbutt

We begin at Birdwoods in Havelock North, where there is time to explore the gallery housed in a historic church, the sculpture garden and the much-loved old-fashioned sweet shop.
Our final experience is a very special one. We meet renowned cheese expert, author and international cheese judge Juliet Harbutt at her Havelock North home for a private tasting experience.
Juliet introduces us to artisan New Zealand cheeses paired with Hawke’s Bay flavours and wine, while sharing stories from her remarkable career and her passion for New Zealand food producers.
It’s a wonderfully personal way to conclude our Hawke’s Bay journey before we continue to Napier Airport for our flight home.

Behind the Gates of Hawke’s Bay

One of the things that makes Petals & Pinot different is the opportunity to go beyond Hawke’s Bay’s best-known attractions and meet the people who bring the region to life.
With our friend John Vickers, we visit privately owned historic homes and gardens that are not generally open to the public. We meet local owners, hear the stories behind these remarkable properties and discover an architectural heritage that most visitors never get to see.
This is exactly the kind of authentic, small-group New Zealand experience we love creating at Seemore Tours.

Meet Juliet Harbutt

One of the things we love most at Seemore Tours is introducing our travellers to fascinating New Zealanders.
On our final day in Hawke’s Bay, we visit the Havelock North home of renowned cheese expert, author and international cheese judge Juliet Harbutt for a private food and wine experience.
Juliet shares artisan New Zealand cheeses, local Hawke’s Bay flavours and stories from her remarkable career, giving us a personal insight into some of the people and producers behind New Zealand’s artisan food scene.
FAQs
Every tour is a little different, and we understand you'll have questions before deciding whether Petals & Pinot is right for you. We've answered some of the most common ones below. And if you'd rather talk to a real person, we're always happy to have a chat.
Is Petals & Pinot suitable for seniors?
Absolutely. Petals & Pinot has been designed with mature travellers in mind, combining comfortable travel, quality accommodation and interesting experiences at a relaxed pace.
One of the real advantages of this tour is that we stay at the same Napier hotel for all four nights, so you only need to unpack once.
There is some walking involved while exploring gardens, historic properties, wineries and wildlife attractions, but this isn't designed as a strenuous or highly active holiday.
If you're unsure whether the tour will suit your mobility, please give us a call. We're always happy to talk through what's involved.
How much walking is involved?
There will be some walking at the properties and attractions we visit, including Cape Sanctuary, wineries, gardens and historic homes.
Some locations may have uneven ground, particularly gardens, rural properties and wildlife areas.
The emphasis is on comfortable sightseeing rather than strenuous walking, and we'll give you more information about individual activities before departure.
If you have any mobility concerns, please talk to us before booking so we can help you decide whether the tour is suitable.
Do we change hotels during the tour?
No — and we think that's one of the lovely things about this holiday.
We stay all four nights at the Art Deco Masonic Hotel in Napier, so you can unpack your suitcase once and settle in.
Its central Napier location also puts us right amongst the city's wonderful Art Deco character.
What makes Petals & Pinot different from other Hawke’s Bay tours?
Petals & Pinot combines Hawke’s Bay’s famous attractions with smaller, more personal experiences that are difficult to arrange independently.
Alongside Napier’s Art Deco architecture, Cape Kidnappers and Craggy Range Estate, we visit private historic properties with John Vickers and enjoy a private cheese and wine experience with Juliet Harbutt at her Havelock North home.
These personal connections are a hallmark of Seemore Tours and allow our travellers to experience the people behind the destination, not simply the sights.
What is special about the historic homes tour?
This is one of the feature experiences of Petals & Pinot.
Our friend and heritage expert John Vickers will guide us through a selection of privately owned historic homes and gardens, sharing their architecture, history and stories.
The properties include examples of work by important New Zealand architects such as Charles Natusch, James Walter Chapman-Taylor and Russell & Bignell.
We'll also enjoy lunch with one of the homeowners, making this a particularly personal experience.
What happens on the vintage car tour of Napier?
We'll explore Art Deco Napier in a vintage car, accompanied by an enthusiast who knows the city's fascinating history.
You'll hear how the devastating 1931 earthquake changed Napier forever and how the rebuilding that followed created the extraordinary Art Deco city we know today.
Our journey also includes special stops at the Napier Municipal Theatre and National Tobacco Company building.
It's a wonderfully appropriate way to discover one of the world's great Art Deco cities.
What will we see at Cape Kidnappers?
We'll travel by 4WD safari through spectacular Hawke's Bay countryside towards the Cape Kidnappers Gannet Colony.
The journey itself is part of the experience, travelling through coastline, working farms and native bush before reaching the colony.
Here we'll have the opportunity to observe thousands of gannets at remarkably close range, watching them gather, preen and soar above this dramatic coastal landscape.
What is Cape Sanctuary?
Cape Sanctuary is a major conservation project at Te Awanga, working to restore native habitats and protect some of New Zealand's remarkable wildlife.
During our visit we'll learn about conservation projects including dune restoration, coastal revegetation and species translocations.
We'll also have the opportunity for close encounters with native species which may include takahē, kākāriki, giant wētā and tuatara.
Do I need to be a wine drinker to enjoy Petals & Pinot?
Not at all. While Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s most celebrated wine regions, Petals & Pinot is about much more than wine.
The tour also includes Art Deco architecture, private historic homes and gardens, wildlife, conservation, local food and fascinating New Zealand personalities.
Alternative beverages can be arranged for travellers who prefer not to drink wine.
Are meals included?
Yes. The tour includes all breakfasts, all dinners and four of the five lunches.
Several meals are experiences in their own right, including our vineyard welcome lunch, elegant High Tea at Mangapapa, lunch with one of the historic homeowners and farewell lunch at Birdwoods.
Are flights included?
Yes. Return flights to Napier are included as part of the tour package.
We'll take care of the arrangements so your Hawke's Bay holiday is easy from beginning to end.
Can Seemore Tours arrange transport from my home?
Yes. We offer a convenient home pick-up and drop-off service for many travellers, subject to conditions.
Ask us when booking and we'll discuss the options available from your area.
Can I travel on my own?
Absolutely. Many Seemore Tours guests travel solo, so you certainly won't be alone.
Small-group touring makes it easy to meet people naturally through shared meals, sightseeing and experiences. It's one of the reasons such wonderful camaraderie develops on our tours.
You'll have the independence of your own room while enjoying the friendship and company of the group throughout the holiday.
Why is Hawke's Bay such a special destination?
Hawke's Bay has an extraordinary mix of experiences within a relatively compact region.
There's the Art Deco heritage of Napier, celebrated wineries and food producers, dramatic coastal scenery, native wildlife, beautiful gardens and some fascinating historic homes.
That variety makes it particularly well suited to a relaxed short break — you can experience an enormous amount without spending your holiday travelling long distances each day.
Is Petals & Pinot a fast-paced tour?
No. We've deliberately designed Petals & Pinot as a relaxed five-day escape.
Staying in the same hotel for four nights means no constant packing and unpacking, while our small-group format allows us to move comfortably between experiences.
There's plenty to see, but the emphasis is on enjoying each experience rather than rushing through a checklist of attractions.
Why travel to Hawke's Bay with Seemore Tours?
Because we'll show you more than the places everyone already knows.
Alongside Napier, Cape Kidnappers and Hawke's Bay's celebrated wineries, we've included private homes, passionate local hosts, conservation experiences and special dining occasions that allow you to connect with the region in a more personal way.
With your Seemore Tours Tour Manager looking after the arrangements, you can simply enjoy the experiences, the company and this beautiful part of New Zealand.
