Itinerary   |   27 Sept - 1 Oct 2026
  • DAY 1. Coromandel Cruise | Man O'War

Sunday 27 September. Our five-day escape begins as we gather in downtown Auckland and board the Explore ferry for a scenic cruise across the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke Island.

We pause at iconic Man O’War Bay, home to one of Waiheke’s celebrated beachfront vineyards. Surrounded by rolling hills and a private bay, we sample estate-grown wines paired with a shared platter lunch – a delicious start to our holiday.

Reboarding the ferry, we continue to the Coromandel. On arrival, our driver transfers us to Coromandel Town to browse the boutique shops and soak up the relaxed seaside charm. Later, we settle into our beachside accommodation for a delightful two-night stay.

    Lunch, Dinner.

  • DAY 2. Coromandel Town | Driving Creek Rail | Whitianga

Monday 28 September. This morning we visit Driving Creek Railway, one of the Coromandel’s most remarkable attractions. This unique narrow-gauge mountain railway winds its way through regenerating native forest, across spirals, tunnels and viaducts – an extraordinary feat of engineering.

At the summit, we step out at the EyeFull Tower to take in breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the Hauraki Gulf and surrounding ranges. Along the way, we learn about the inspiring legacy of visionary artist and conservationist Barry Brickell, whose passion transformed this landscape into a thriving haven of art, rail and regeneration.

After this creative and scenic adventure, we head to the wonderfully quirky Waterworks. Set within a lush, park-like environment, Waterworks is a playful outdoor gallery of inventive contraptions powered entirely by water. Expect the unexpected – from water-driven musical instruments and curious engineering puzzles to interactive installations. It’s a light-hearted, hands-on experience that perfectly captures the creative spirit of the Coromandel.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • DAY 3. Cathedral Cove | Hot Water Beach | Tairua

Tuesday 29 September. With bags packed, we journey across the peninsula to Whitianga, travelling through winding coastal roads, native bush-clad hills, and sweeping ocean vistas that showcase the very best of the Coromandel.

In Whitianga, we board a glass-bottom boat for a scenic coastal cruise. Marvel at Cathedral Cove, dramatic cliffs, hidden sea caves, and the fascinating marine life visible beneath the clear waters.

After some free time to explore Whitianga, we head to the famous Hot Water Beach and if the tide is right, we’ll experience the soothing warmth of the natural thermal springs rising beneath your feet.

We then continue south along the stunning Pacific Coast to Tairua – a relaxed seaside village nestled between a tranquil harbour and surf beach, overlooked by the iconic Mt Paku. Our home for the next two nights is Pacific Harbour Villas, a lovely coastal paradise!

    Breakfast, Dinner.

  • DAY 4. Pauanui | Alderman Islands | Tairua

Wednesday 30 September. It’s ships ahoy as we set sail for the Aldermen Islands – often referred to as the “Vanishing Volcanoes.” This extraordinary offshore island chain is formed from ancient rhyolite lava domes rising dramatically from the sea, with towering cliffs, hidden coves, and rare flora and fauna found nowhere else on the mainland. Cruising these rugged formations is a true highlight and a spectacular way to experience the wild beauty of the Coromandel coastline.

Back on land, we retrace our journey up the coast to Mercury Bay Estate, where we enjoy lunch overlooking the Aldermen Islands we’ve just explored – a view that beautifully connects sea and shore.

After lunch, we visit a macadamia farm for an informative tour and tasting of these delicious locally grown nuts before returning to Tairua.

This evening, we gather for a fabulous farewell dinner at the Tairua Beach Club – a wonderful setting and a fitting celebration to conclude our coastal escape.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

  • DAY 5. Whangamatā | Waihi Beach | Bowentown

Thursday 1 October. Today we farewell Tairua and begin our journey home. Along the way, we make a cheerful stop in Whangamatā before continuing to Waihi Beach and Bowentown, where a very special local welcomes us with captivating stories, sweeping views across to Matakana Island, insights into the vital work of the Coastguard, and a glimpse of her favourite seaside haunts.

In the afternoon, we travel back to Auckland, bringing our wonderful five-day adventure to a close. We hope you have thoroughly enjoyed your time away and, as always with Seemore Tours, you’ve had the opportunity to see more, do more, and have more fun!

Coromandel Town's wonderfully whimsical Driving Creek Railway

There's a tract of hilly land above Coromandel Town that the Department of Conservation might want to keep a careful eye on.

It abuts the 60-acre (24ha) property that's home to the wonderfully whimsical Driving Creek Railway — renowned New Zealand potter Barry Brickell's decades-long labour of love.

What began in 1975 as a purely practical endeavour to transport clay dug from the land's hills to Brickell's workshop, soon morphed into a project of ever-increasing scale.

As Paul Swanwick, a former local policeman who now drives the trains, explains, Brickell "found he rather enjoyed the laying of the track and knew he had 60 acres to fill up, so he decided to continue".
